- The appointee will be involved in a new Collaborative Research Grant on
- the role of membrane fluidity and function in stress tolerance and stability
- of industrial baker's yeast. The project is for 3 years and is funded
- jointly by the Australian Research Council and Burns Philp Research and
- Development Pty. Ltd.

- The Burns Philp Group is a major producer of baker's yeast with production
- facilities throughout Australasia, Europe and the Americas. Its worldwide
- activities are supported by substantial research and development based in
- the Technology and Research Centre in Sydney. Work on this project will
- involve significant collaboration with researchers at Burns Philp.
- Publication of research results will be permissible.

- The Yeast Technology Group at UNE, headed by Dr K. Watson and Dr R. Learmonth
- is an active research group with expertise in yeast physiology and stress,
- molecular biology and membrane biophysics. Laboratories are exceptionally
- well equipped for basic and advanced studies on yeast physiology, molecular
- biology and fluorescence polarisation.

- Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant discipline with essential skills
- and experience in fluorescence and biophysical studies of membranes, and
- desirable experience in subcellular fractionation, enzymology or protein
- biochemistry.
