- The point was that there isn't anything preventing several 40 ton trucks
- driving across the bridge together. You could have 2 or 3 driving near
- each other in each direction. That would be 160 to 240 tons all in
- one very short segment of the bridge as the east and west-bound group
- of trucks passed over/under one another. With a TGV trainset, the 430
- ton total train weight would be spread out over it's entire length.
- Certainly, the weight issue is something that would have to be carefully
- researched before any project gets built. I'm merely arguing that given
- that there were two tracks on the lower deck in the 40's with 90 ton
- interrurbans passing one another alongside two or three lanes reserved
- for trucks and other special traffic, I think it's premature to start
- handwringing about how the bridge might not be able to handle the
- TGVs or proposed BayLink equipment.
