- Ditto this warning. The road has been closed, off and on,
- ever since it started raining again. Also, be warned that
- some of the repairs are primitive. (Heck, let's face it, the
- whole road exists in defiance of god and nature!)
- And pull over, enjoy the view, and let us regular-1-drivers pass,
- now and then. ;-)

- Actually, heading south, the sequence of places is Monterey,
- Carmel, Carmel Highlands (past Point Lobos, which is a must-see),
- then about 30 miles to Big Sur, then Nepenthe/Ventana, Lucia (nice
- cabins and good restaurant), Pacific Valley (featureless motel with
- good view, nonmemorable restaurant), Gorda (cute store/coffee shop)
- Ragged Point (magnificent view, nice motel, pretty awful
- coffee shop/burger stand), Piedras Blancas (very '40's motel
- and coffee shop that I haven't eaten at in 20 years...), San
- Simeon, Cambria.
