- Anyone close to the source of this info? God know I'm not... but:
- I understand that the EBS was not activated at the request of ANY agency...
- ie: no agency of authority - Federal, State, County or Local (although I do
- believe I remember that the city of SF requested activation a few hours after
- the quake) requested that it be activated.
-
- Besides, (enter snottass mood) if anyone needed to be alerted that there
- had been a quake, I don't think the duo-tone activation would have made them
- any more alert than the shaking did. I do believe that nay source of media
- transmission (minus the HBO,Nick, etc) that people were in tune to, were either
- doing the maximum that could be done in relaying the information either via
- their own news departments, or by rebroadcasting another station on their
- frequency. Most people know where to tune in at a time (or am I being
- over generous?) when news is required. A friend of mine that will do anything
- to avoid KGO will immediately tune there for info when a moderate quake hits.
-
- Of course, then theres the other thing about SOME (no names here) stations.
- When a 1.5 quake hits, whatever is running is pre-empted for the next half
- hour to an hour for QUAKE STATUS REPORTS. Not that this is a bad thing, but
- once they have had calls from all points within 50-100 miles of them and it
- appears that the strongest report is in Hayward and felt like a small thud
- there, do they need to continue with their pinpointing?
