  30. Let me just try to defuse this a bit. Canada has a rather low profile
  31. here, and to many of us, it's almost an American state. Its culture
  32. seems to be almost identical to American culture, its economy dependent
  33. upon America, the accents watered-down American accents, and its music
  34. quite American-oriented. You must excuse us for our ignorance in this
  35. matter. Do you know the difference between Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia,
  36. Malaysia, and Vietnam? I do, to a degree, but only because I've lived in
  37. Thailand; I wouldn't expect most people here to.

  39. The fact remains, however, from your own statements: Canada is affected
  40. heavily by America, and this includes gun smuggling and violence.
  41. I don't know whether or not the following would be true: Canada's
  42. government hasn't done enough to stamp out such smuggling, and this
  43. approximates an implicit permission for such things to occur.

  46. I agree that violence in music is not a positive thing. But to target
  47. rap as the culprit is unfair. Consider the violent images in heavy metal
  48. and industrial music (I like industrial BTW). And many leading rap groups
  49. are pro-peace; it's a minority who heavily endorse violence. De La Soul,
  50. for example, is peaceful, as are the Jungle Brothers, Definition of Sound,
  51. Redhead Kingpin, Dream Warriors, PM Dawn, ...
