  13. GOSIP STATEMENT OF DIRECTION

  15. The Information Exchange Steering Committee (IESC) has been reviewing
  16. experience both in Commonwealth agencies and overseas in implementing OSI
  17. standards as specified in GOSIP. This is with a view to determining
  18. whether any amendment to policy is required and to respond to suggestions
  19. that the government needs to give a clearer statement of direction for
  20. GOSIP.

  22. The attached draft GOSIP Statement of Direction has been prepared by the
  23. IESC's Open Systems Subcommittee (OSSC) in consultation with the GOSIP
  24. Manager at DAS and the Australian Information Industries Association
  25. (AIIA). It provides a restatement of the objectives, policies,
  26. responsibilities and direction for the ongoing development and
  27. implementation of the international OSI standards as encompassed in the
  28. Australian Government OSI Profile (GOSIP).

  30. A copy of the draft Statement has been enclosed [see note below] for your
  31. information and review. We would welcome any comments you wish to make to
  32. OSSC through myself at the above address by close of business February 12

  34. will be incorporated into the document prior to its planned official
  35. release at an IESC sponsored seminar in Canberra on 29 March 1993.
