- Yeah, I have it.

- Only 2? Only two to get 16 voice polyphony and 4 outputs? Wow I only need
- one Ensoniq EPS. Imagine That! : Now let me see how YOU prove that it isn't

- : Since most house records contain samples from which at least 90% is

- Never mentioned the Akai SO1. I believe it is garbage. As for why have a
- good quality sampler to reproduce Analog sounds? Because ALL sounds are
- analog whether they are generated from a Digital Synth or an old Moog. To
- reproduce them with any resemblance to the original takes a good
- sampler Period, no ifs, ans, buts, mods, or Amigas will change that.

- : S-1000????
- The industry standard to shoot for is the S-1000, I however couldn't
- afford one so I bought an EPS. Another good qualty sampler that "gets the
- job done".Which Roland are we talking about anyway? Roland made a ton of
- samplers. Not all of them that good.

-
- : Let me get this, so people without EXPENSIVE equipment CAN'T make
- : good music???? Where are your brains!!!!
- Expensive is relative. I think Technics SL-1200's are expensive for
- something that plays records. However if you ask any DJ they will tell you
- if you're serious you will get two 1200's as they are the STANDARD
- whereever you go. This is what I meant when I said help people who want to
- progress with their tracks and take them beyond the "messing with sounds"
- stage. The Akai S-1000, expensive as it maybe is the industry standard. I
- don't have one but would like to. Right now I get by with a 13bit Ensoniq
- EPS with 2 Megs and soon a Hard Drive. This sampler cost me $900 U.S.
- Expensive? Maybe. The cost of two Technics 1200s or about 1/4 of what an
- S-1000 would cost. It's all relative. What do you ultimately do with your
- creation should determine your equipment purchaces not because someone
- says, "I use this, and that". For those who want to "mess with sound" get
- an Amiga. 8 voice polyphony and 8 part multi-timbral is fine for that. If
- you want to put out a quality vinyl release I suggest a basic MIDI setup.
- I would tell you also to buy what you can afford and try to get the stuff
- used.
-
- : Would ANYBODY buy $25000 worth of equipment, only to find out after some
- : months that they can't make music???? (Though people nowadays seem to
- : like everything, Even POING!! or ALLES NAAR DE KLOTE).
- No, I would say anyone doing that has more money than brains, wouldn't
- you? Some people will always like "everything" because usally they have no
- taste. I started with a little $200 drum machine. This was enough to get
- me started in the direction of the music I do now and it had MIDI so I
- could use it as part of a bigger setup I ultimately got once I KNEW what I
- NEEDED. And once I KNEW I COULD MAKE MUSIC.
- Let the bass kick... : (Hmm, this seems to be causing early demention)
- Not sure why...
-
- : And I think I'm probably flaming here...
- Ah, we all tend to sometime. I think you should read that message by John
- Ashton that precedes this one if you haven't already done so.
-
- : But now let's end this thread, and just continue on ways of using computers
- : to make music...
- Yeah, using MIDI of course :)
