  14. When I take the test (MBTI and the Temperament Sorter) I am clearly an
  15. ENTJ. That preference for behaviour is how I have earned a living most of
  16. my life (as a manger in demanding/cost-conscious environments).

  18. However, having passed through my mid-life crisis, I felt (sic) I would
  19. like to behave in a different way. I really tried to be an ENFP, you
  20. know, more caring more open minded, not rushing into action, not closing
  21. down decisions all the time. I even changed my job from managing a large
  22. department with matching budget, to a three person department with next
  23. to no budget in a tiny company. Damn it I still get ENTJ on the tests.

  25. In the MBTI philosophy, it is quite acceptable (even admirable) to
  26. use/adapt/change your basic preferences with as much vigour as
  27. circumstances and personal desire warrant. Nevertheless I suspect that I
  28. am an ENTJ through and through and am unlikely to vary greatly from that
  29. type of behaviour. Part of this may be environmental.  The ENTJ way is
  30. particularly successful in managerial appointments in the UK. As long as
  31. I am a manager in the current climate, this set of preferences is likely
  32. to be an asset and self perpetuating. It does mean that I can carry out
  33. redundancies, dismissals, re-organisations etc without a great deal of
  34. heart-ache whilst still being supportive to both the individual and the
  35. Company.

  37. There has been some discussion here about type changing over time. I have
  38. always thought this possible - although I have now discovered it is
  39. harder to achieve deliberately, than I had imagined. Unless ENTJ is a
  40. particularly stable type ?
