  34. One answer to this is Karl Popper's philosophy of knowledge.  He says that
  35. scientific theories are not provable, only falsifiable.  The canonical
  36. example is the statement "all swans are white".  This can never be proven
  37. no matter how many white swans you see.  It could be falsified by seeing
  38. one black swan.  Likewise "every word in the Bible is true" cannot be
  39. proven, only falisified.
