- Many UNIX machines provide a tool called 'nslookup' which gets the required
- information from the Domain Name System which you can imagine as a distributed
- database of IP addresses. If you request the IP address for camis.stanford.edu
- and your local server doesn't know about it, it will contact the root server
- for the edu-domain asking it for help. This server then passes the request
- to the name server for Stanford University, which then should be able to
- send back the required information. But to answer your question :-) :
- - the address is 36.44.0.7
- - to solve the problem in general, use either nslookup or (quoting the FAQ):
- -IP Address Resolver mail resolve@cs.widener.edu
- mail dns@grasp.insa-lyon.fr (body of letter: help)
- usage: in body-of-letter: site <address here> Mails you IP address of site.
