- God knows, it was probably Sam Cooke who wrote those lines in a song which
- expressed his love for another. If I could, I would love to hug and hold
- everyone who responded gently to the latest abuse from a narrow minded
- sociopath, special accolades and kudos deservedly go out to
- njw@lmb.cam.ac.uk for his diligent efforts to curb the offender's
- rhetoric. Boys, womyn, aren't we only searching for a love which will
- fulfill our longings and give meaning to our existence? In this world of
- hate, derision, undercutting and discrimination isn't it love for which
- our hearts truly ache? It matters not with whom or in whom we find the
- yearnings of our heart, what is essential is that we remain true to our
- conscience and not allow others to shape and/or mold our right and dignity
- into their liking. Today is the first day of a new administration which
- promises to dismantle the barriers which have held us prisoners for so
- long. The renaissance of Stonewall must not pass beneath our feet
- unaddressed. Let us unite, once and for all in a display of solidarity,
- showing those who fear us, who hate us, who deride and abuse us that we
- are strong, that we are united, that we truly comprise "family." On April
- 25, in Washington, DC we shall be given to opportunity to make our
- presence known, not only to the nation, but to the entire world. It is
- truly essential that as many of us come to DC as can to march in the name
- and cause of Equal Rights and Liberation for Lesbian , Gay and Bisexual
- people everywhere. It is in this way that we shall demonstrate to the
- world that we shall not be pushed back into the closet, but that we shall
- stand firm, tall and united in a world where we can freely chose with whom
- we share our love.
-
- Finally, I would like to say that I am not fully "out" yet as many
- others most assuredly are, but I shall not allow that to deter my struggle
- to gain the rights which I and others deserve. All I ask, all it is which
- I implore, is for the out-ed to be gentle and nurturing with the
- closet-ed, nothing is more horrifying than stepping into a world where
- pain and hatred wait in the mainstream. Strength of character is built in
- acceptance, I ask each of you who are out to nurture and support someone
- who is unsure, who is afraid, for in that other you may encounter yourself.
-
- Here is the address, if you don't already have it, for the 1993 march:

-

- and joy in the coming months. Let us stand tall and proud that at last
- there is a President who is sympathetic to rights and dignity of gays,
- lesbians and bisexuals. Please spread the word about the march.
- merci bien, mes amis! vous etes formidable!
