- It is indeed a classical allusion. Ganymede was a mortal boy whom Zeus
- apparently considered attractive. Zeus therefore made him his cup-bearer (a
- servant who officially poured the wine). The moons around the planet
- Jupiter are named after this god's loves, and one of them is named Ganymede.

- So Ganymede was servant to the gods, hence the club's name. But as to why
- the JUNIOR Ganymedes, there you have me. Perhaps the club members jocularly
- considered themselves as apprentices to Ganymede?
