- I have just finished re-reading the chapter on Tom Bombadil. Frodo asks
- Goldberry "Who is Tom Bombadil" and she replies that "he is". She then
- elaborates a bit and says that he has been here "from the beginning" and that
- he remembers the very beginnings of Middle Earth. That would seem to predate
- him to both the Valar and Maiar. My impression is that he is the embodiment of
- the physical earth, but I may be reading far more into it than I should.
