- Although I've never grown anything before, I thought about this also. I
- think one consideration is, a lot of people are starting with a single
- spore print to innoculate a large volume of medium. This means, you
- want to innoculate with very few spores. If there's nothing else to
- crowd out these spores, it would be a lot easier for them to get a
- foothold in the medium than if the medium were crawling with other
- little fugly buglies. After the medium is rich with the growth of the
- proper fungus, I'm sure you could "transplant" (I'm not sure what the
- term is...) it to other, non-sterile medium.
- Also, yes, you can tell what's shroom and what's not, but what if
- something is growing on your shroom which will kill you? Or, what if
- another similar but very deadly shroom grows instead?
- I don't _know_ anything, I'm just speculating...
- I have heard many people complain of getting no results even if they do
- use sterile medium though, so I'm not sure of anything anymore...
