  13. The book "The Difference Engine" is great!  I just finished reading it.
  14. I would  recinnend recommend it highly.  If Babbage had built his difference
  15. engine someone would have come up with vacuum tubes or transistors very 
  16. quickly because the big clunky thing would take up too much space and
  17. require too much energy to operate.  There would be a lot of necessity for
  18. the mother of invention, and our current level of computer technology would
  19. be many years ahead of what it is now.  But if you want to talk "what if",
  20. what if the Japanese won world war II?  Read "The Man In the High Castle"
  21. by PK DICK if you like alternate history sci fi.
