I think it was called "The Last Man" although this may be just me thinking up a
good title for the story and thinking that Asimov used the title as well. I
have read it, quite some time ago but didn't read into it the deeper meaning
expressed here, but now I come to think of it the meaning is a good one.
I think that God's boredom as a logical consequence of his eing is one of the
more damming things against his existance and consequently of (if it existed)
the wish of atheists to prefer proper final death to any idea of heaven.
