- I have proposed the following talk for an upcoming conference of
- education people in Michigan (MACUL or the Michigan Association of
- Computer Users in Learning)
-
- The tentative description is the following:
-
- This session will highlight the origin and development of the international
- computer conferencing network, Usenet News, which involves an estimated
- 3 million people worlwide. The presentation will trace Usenet's
- origin as an electronic newsletter to help computer users find and fix
- programming bugs to its current expansion into over 3,000 interactive
- newsgroups ranging from amateur computerists to the science of economics.
-
- I have several days to modify the description and I would also
- appreciate suggestions or leads for some information or stories, etc.
- that might be helpful in presenting the talk.
-
- What I wanted to do is to give some background of the ARPANET
- and then show how Usenet was developed as a Poor Man's ARPANET.
