  72. If one wanted to write to their congressman - for example, 
  73. my local congressman now is John Conyers, Jr.
  74.  
  75. What would the address be likely to be?

  77. I just talked with Raymond Plowden his chief of staff in his
  78. Detroit office(of Congressman Conyers) I was told that he didn't
  79. know if they wanted to have that type of access for constituents
  80.

  82. That email access was for internal usage.

  84. Also, when I tried to suggest that there might be a value
  85. to Congressman Conyers to hear his constituents views
  86. and experiences with the laws the Congressman drafts and/or
  87. votes on - I was told that maybe "we"(i.e, the Congressman
  88. and his staff) don't need "your" (i.e. constituents) data.

  90. Basically the Chief of Staff gave me to understand that 
  91. the Congressman has his positions on questions and issues
  92. and laws and that they will tell me THE CONGRESSMAN'S
  93. position - that their office sees no need to hear 
  94. other views from constituents.

  96. And I was told that they supported corporations getting 
  97. involved in public schools despite the fact that I pointed
  98. out to the Chief of Staff that the Bill of Rights forbids
  99. the U.S. govt from usurping rights that are not specifically
  100. delegated to them and that the right to public education are
  101. not a right delegated to the federal government and thus it
  102. is a right that is reserved for the states or the people thereof.
  103. Thus the federal government should not be passing laws that
  104. require that corporations control public education.

  106. I was told that the Congressman has his position.
  107.  
  108. Previously when I tried to talk with Congressman Conyers about the 
  109. fact that there was a federal law providing for large private
  110. corporations to control public education - his office first promised
  111. to look into it, and then told me that public schools were like
  112. hospitals so since there were such arrangements with hospitals,
  113. it was ok to have such arrangements with public schools.
  114.  
  115. But public schools are soverign government entities - 
  116. governed by a very different set of constitutional obligations
  117. than hospitals.

  119. There is a federal law forbidding private entities from usurping
  120. governmental functions - which has to do with liabilities for 
  121. those private entities that are acting under what is known as 
  122. "color of state law".
  123.  
  124. The Congressman's Chief Aide supposedly is a lawyer - I was
  125. trying to explain why there was a need to review the 
  126. Job Training Partnership Law and the intermessing of it with the 
  127. Adult Basic Education Law - but I found that he was uninterested
  128. and really even nasty that I should think I had some information that 
  129. the Coangressman might have some obligation to examine.

  131. So it seems that in the U.S., Congresspeople like this Congressman
  132. are there to tell their constituents what the Congressman's party
  133. position is - the Congressman is not there to hear from his
  134. constituents.

  136. So email access seems particularly important - since something has
  137. to change - obviously the Congressman's aide that I spoke with
  138. today didn't feel any need to have any feedback from the public.

  140. If I wanted to try to send email to this Congressman - would I 
  141. try the following email address?

  147. This aide seemed to say that their office never heard of email
  148. -- and I've been calling their office for the past 3 weeks 
  149. now and each time I talk with them they tell me that they
  150. have never heard of email.
