  12. I'm not sure if my last message made it through or not, so bear with me if this
  13. is a repeat.

  15. There was a request for information about any male rape cases going to court. I
  16. responded in mentioning a 'gay male acquaintance rape'.

  18. The alleged rapist is a self-identified GAY man.
  19. The alleged survivor is a self-identified GAY man.
  20. The two men met in a GAY bar, went home together, and one allegedly raped the 
  21. other.

  23. I was merely attempting to be specific about this case. It IS important to 
  24. distinguish what kind of rape we are talking about. Rape within the gay 
  25. community can be very different than heterosexual rape or lesbian rape, just as
  26. there are differences between stranger and acquaintance rapes, individual or 
  27. gang rape, adult rape or incest/molestation, etc, etc......

  29. There has been a lot of misinformation on this newsgroup about the rape of men 
  30. over the last few days, let's begin to get our facts right.

  32. Statements like "The sex of the abuser and victim are completely irrelevant to 
  33. the rape" does incredible damage to rape survivors. Many people still believe 
  34. that it is impossible for men to be raped at all, and many female-specific rape
  35. laws make the rape of men perfectly legal by definition.
  36. There are differences between male and female survivors' rape experiences and 
  37. the issues which affect their recovery, just as cultural-specific rape 
  38. education and prevention in our communities is needed to address the demands of
  39. our diverse populations.
