  11. In my elementary school the bright kids were put to work tutoring the
  12. dull ones.  I spent some time with the special ed kids.  One of them
  13. thought he was Elvis.  He'd croon into a broken radio he carried around.

  15. He was so into the role that the other special ed kids egged him on, and
  16. he'd perform, no matter where they were.  The normal kids occasionally
  17. deigned to ask him to sing for them.  He always did, in his semicoherent
  18. droning voice.  He was the first Elvis impersonator any of us had seen,
  19. and wasn't any good at it.  But he believed.
