- In my elementary school the bright kids were put to work tutoring the
- dull ones. I spent some time with the special ed kids. One of them
- thought he was Elvis. He'd croon into a broken radio he carried around.

- He was so into the role that the other special ed kids egged him on, and
- he'd perform, no matter where they were. The normal kids occasionally
- deigned to ask him to sing for them. He always did, in his semicoherent
- droning voice. He was the first Elvis impersonator any of us had seen,
- and wasn't any good at it. But he believed.
