- We left the Cafe' Bauer and strolled arm in arm across to Gerold's.
- While she went in to stock up for the weekend, I walked along to the
- next corner, drawn towards the thunder of the drums and the rhythmic
- clatter of marching boots on the cobbled square.
-
- I was unreasonably happy. Nobody could be this lucky twice. While
- I was standing there, lost in thought, she crept up on me from behind
- and threw her arms around me in one of those joyous embraces that
- normally only happen in romantic films. We hailed a passing Droschke
- and went on our way, both still ever so slightly high on the smell of
- the freshly roasted coffee and, well, you know... being alone together
- at last.
-
- And damned good coffee it was too.
