  10. Back to the Moon Bill to Be Unveiled in San Diego during January
  11. -
  12.         San Diego L5, a chapter of the National Space Society, will
  13. publicly release a draft version of the Lunar Resources Data
  14. Purchase Act on Thursday, January 28 in Tierrasanta, San Diego. 
  15. The event will begin at 7 pm at the Tierrasanta Public Library,
  16. located at 4985 La Cuenta Drive, and is open to the general
  17. public. 
  18.         This legislation, also known as the Back to the Moon bill, 
  19. would authorize the U.S. government to purchase lunar science data
  20. from private vendors. This new cost-saving approach to
  21. exploration of the Moon would jump start the long dormant U.S.
  22. lunar program, and provide scientists with a more complete
  23. understanding of the potentially valuable mineral and elemental
  24. resources on the lunar surface.
  25.       The Lunar Resources Data Purchase Act is planned to be
  26. introduced in the 103rd Congress, once comments on the draft
  27. bill to be released in January are considered.
  28.       San Diego L5, founded in 1982, promotes the development and
  29. exploration of space through public education, communication
  30. with other special interest groups, and political activity. San
  31. Diego L5 played a major role in the enactment of the Launch
  32. Services Purchase Act, a Federal law that prohibits NASA from
  33. launching most space satellites.
