- I have a question about the operation of a cellular phone. Does the
- phone transmit an identification signal when not being used or is it just
- sitting passively listening? The reason I am asking is that I am interested
- in a 'transportable' phone for my car, but I am concerned about sitting
- in an enclosed metal space with a near-microwave transmitter next to me if
- it is constantly radiating when plugged in and turned on. (Admittedly the
- power is quite low, but travelling in the car for hours a day, five days
- a week - I wonder what the effects of long-term, low power exposure are,
- especially to the eyes?)
