- Please post or copy me on any recommendations. I was looking over an
- article in RCM last night about this plane and I'm seriously considering
- it for my second plane to build. The reviewer was a little negative
- on the plans and building notes. Have they improved?
- I do have a specific question about HLG's: how good is the
- performance? Do they thermal well? At all?

- Me too! THANKS! (To the net - For your past advice and discussion.
- I've really enjoyed and welcomed the conversations)

-
- I built up one last summer, and it didn't pose any severe problems to me
- in building. I knew enough to not take too much of anything literally.
-
- Basically, the instructions are OK, but be careful as they may not make as
- much sense to someone else.
- They had included some extra wing ribs, so you could, as I did, add a couple
- of extra wing panels on each wing half. I didn't trust their wing spars too much
- so I added some carbon fiber strips onto the top and bottom spars for added
- strength. I ran spar cross strips all the way out to the tips. I also glassed
- the center section like normal.
- The receiver had to go under the wing, the 250mah battery pack had to be
- custom built (soldered together just right), and wedged into the nose before you
- install the forward most servo. Micro servos are about all that'll fit into
- the fuselage nose, anything else is too big. I added the HI-Start hook for small
- field hi-starts, for when my arm gets tired and strained.
- The airfoil they use, needs a fairly sharp trailing edge, so you need to be
- careful when sanding it in and covering the wing.
-
- It works pretty good, I can give it a good handlaunch, and it goes way up
- there too. A small high start was all I tried and it definitely gets it up high
- just off of the small hi-start. It thermals quite well, has very little drag,
- but the small fuselage makes it hard to get the radio inside and still get the
- servos, pushrods and rudder/elevator to work well.
- The instructions are a bit weak, but not enough to ruin building the model.
