  24.      I had the same symptoms on my 1979 Scout.  But after a while,
  25. the backfire symptoms changed.  The electonic module inside the
  26. distributor died.  After replacement, the engine would run smoothly
  27. for a few months.  The SECOND time this happened was when I started
  28. looking for a replacement distributor.  Since installation of a
  29. points and condenser type, over two years ago, the Scout has
  30. performed flawlessly.  Your mileage may vary.
