- I had the same symptoms on my 1979 Scout. But after a while,
- the backfire symptoms changed. The electonic module inside the
- distributor died. After replacement, the engine would run smoothly
- for a few months. The SECOND time this happened was when I started
- looking for a replacement distributor. Since installation of a
- points and condenser type, over two years ago, the Scout has
- performed flawlessly. Your mileage may vary.
