- Back when the "paraffin and sawdust" logs were a novelty, I visited a friend's
- house where there was a large charred spot in a very irregular pattern on the
- carpet in front of his hearth, with some sharred wood showing through in
- spots. When I asked about it, he explained that it was the result of using a
- 2/3 burned up "presto log" to light the next one (he just piled the second on
- top of the first). Before it got hot enough to ignite, the second one melted,
- and a river of paraffin flowed down over the first log and _did_ ignite. By
- the time he notices the problem, he had a burning pool of wax on his carper, a
- good 18" in front of the fireplace. That stuff is HELL to put out!
-
- Maybe technology has improved, but _I_ sure as hell wouldn't risk it.
