- Gasoline, alcohol.......
-
- With alcohol and cigarettes, it's done to encourage drinkers and smokers to
- either quit or use less, as well as to raise money by the "Not in my back yard"
- method (ie, Non-smokers are very happy to vote for it, especially me since I
- hate cigarette smoke :-)
-
- With gasoline, I think the theory is that everyone uses it, so it's a fair
- way to raise revenue. Since gansters and drug dealers don't pay income tax,
- they raise some revenue out of the bastards by consumption taxes like sales
- tax, use tax on natural gas, electricity, phone, etc.
-
- I suggest we go to all consumption tax, and no income tax. Then we encourage
- conservation of everything, and sleazebags can't slime out of paying their
- taxes. Any other theories?
