  12. Well here's one for the unix wizards out there!!

  14. I have a VERY strange proble with the curses client of gopher 1.1:

  16. When I run as non-root (dgaraffa) everything is just fine!
  17.  
  18. BUT
  19.  
  20. When I run as root (or do a su from dgaraffa) the client will not respond
  21. to cursor movement or 'capture' any of the single key commands.
  22.  
  23. Example:

  25. up/down-arrows will NOT move the arrow  "-->" from one menu choice to
  26. another
  27. (instead it 'types the letter "A" next to the --> for UP and "B" for DOWN)
  28. it looks like this when I hit the DOWN arrow 3 times and the UP arrow 3
  29. times)

  44. and when I type "q" the bottom of the screen will NOT clear and display the
  45. message "Really quit (y/n) ? y" instead a q will appear next to the -->
  46. (but when I press RETURN it will quit!)

  49. Now for the strangest part of the story:

  51. EVERYTHING was working fine for EVERYONE until yesterday so the problem
  52. can't
  53. be with the gopher application (can it?).

  56. What I have tried so far:
  57. -------------------------
  58. changing the default shell from sh to csh (for ROOT .. dgaraffa was always
  59. csh)
  60.  
  61. replaced 'roots' prefs files with 'dgaraffas'
  62.  
  63. recompiled gopher (as root)
  64.  
  65. gone nuts tring to think of what I may have done yesterday to cause the
  66. problem!

  69. If you have any ideas I can try (and at this point I will try ANYTHING)
