- Hello,
-
- I have recently been given an older Computervison CAD Station. I am told that it is actually a SUN 3/260 or 3/280 (its a floor standing unit about
- 3 1/2 feet high and 1-1 1/2 feet wide). At present it is diskless, as it
- was running NFS from another SUN 3. I would like to add a tape drive and disks
- to bring it up as a stand-alone unit. This is what I know about it:
-
- 1. It has a standard SUN type 5 keyboard, mouse, and a Conrac monitor
- 2. The CPU is a 68020/68881 @ 25Mhz
- 3. It has a SCSI card, and all the cables (both DC power and SCSI
- siganl cables are available inside the cabinet
- 4. It has 2 X 8 Meg memory cards, on is strapped at 0 and the other
- is strapped at 1.
- 5. As far as anyone can remember, it was working when shut down.
- 6. We have the original SunOS tapes (4.0.3) along with a couple of
- patch tapes.
-
- The internal SCSI cable has the connectors marked off for TAPE DRIVE,
- HARD DISK 0, and HARD DISK 1. My questions are:
-
- 1. As a tape drive can I use an Archive 2150S? If so, at what SCSI ID
- I set it at?
- 2. I only have Micropolis 1375 Drives around. They are 140MB formatted.
- I can place 2 of them in the cabinet. Are they large enough for
- SunOS, and if so, what SCSI IDs should I set them to? I realize
- that larger drives are always better, but i have to make do with
- what I have for now.
-
- The reason for doing this is to give me achance to learn Unix. If
- there are any reasons why this is not possible, or there are any other considerations please let me know either through e_mail or by posting here.
- Thank you for your time.
