- (Stan's Own Server Software) and gnu-tar the disks onto my 2GB 8mm
- cartridge (I WOULD use bru except that for some reason bru can't read
- the mounted disks -- odd but ...). Anyway, the procedure seemed to
- work just fine but the files on the tape have all of their bytes
- swapped. Just for the record: these tapes are written and read on the
- same machine. I did manage to get the data off via:
- #> cat /dev/exabyte | dd conv=swab | gtar -xvf -
- but I still don't know why these bytes got swapped. Any ideas?
-
- On a related note, can someone tell me why:
- #> dd if=/dev/exabyte of=foo
- dd: read error: Invalid argument
- 0+0 records in
- 0+0 records out
-
- #> ls -l /dev/exabyte
- crw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 23,162 Dec 26 11:27 /dev/exabyte
-
- I have done this on other machines with a QIC, is there something
- special about exabytes that I don't know about?
