  15. I know that this has been discussed before, but
  16. didn't found any references. sorry is its FAQ.
  17. It is also clear that all the questions are answered
  18. by buying a sgi cd drive. Just out of curiousity,
  19. how do I install stuff via a non-sgi cd drive,
  20. attached to a remote non-sgi workstation ?

  22. 1. exec environment is installed via local tape (4.0.1)
  23.    (local machine VGX320)
  24.  
  25. 2. a SUN drive is attached to an Indigo (R3000), but
  26.    fails with SCSI timeouts (hinv o.k.).

  28. 3. the develop. SGI-CD is fed into an HP drive attached to
  29.    an HP750, but couldn't be mounted.

  31. 4. same with SUN drive attached to an ELC
  32.  
  33. 5. (haha, new idea:) the CD is copied from the remote
  34.    (HP drive/750) raw device via dd to an Indigo raw
  35.    disk file (/dev/rdsk/dks0d2s6). mount fails and fsck
  36.    doesn't like the raw disk at all.

  38. I understand that HP and SUN don't accept the efs filesystem
  39. on the installation disks and that non-sgi drives won't work
  40. on sgi boxes (may or may not).
  41. Why does the raw-raw transfer from remote drive to local disk fails ?
  42. dd problems (filled-up blocks etc.) or more basic ?
