- | - Not just the GL ones, but the X ones as well. That's a LOT of work.
- | .....
- | I thought it just meant porting the rest of X11R5 (which supports transparent
- | backgrounds) to IRIX, rather than just those bits that SGI found so useful that
- | they pre-stitched them into X11R4 as distributed with IRIX 4.xx (full
- | marks for that, since Irix 4 was released just before X11R5, but that is now
- | 17 months ago ...)
-
- 14, actually. 401 (the first general production release, 4.0 was only
- for initial Indigo shipments) was compiled 15 Nov 91, with customers
- first getting it in Dec 91, and most not for another 3 months after
- that.
-
- Anyway, it was debated if X11R5 and Motif 1.2 could be released around
- this time under 4.0.X, and it was decided for various reasons that it
- would wait for the 5.0 release, partly because an earlier release on
- 4.0.X would have delayed 5.0 further. That's life in the big company
- world...
-
- (I don't know enough about X to know if X11R5 by itself would be
- enough. I doubt it, since GL apps would also need to be rewritten,
- for mixed mode apps.)
