  15. About a month ago I posted this but got no answer from the
  16. SGI folks so I'll try again.

  18. We're having some sort of streams related problem
  19. with 4.0.5 on our 4D-240, which has been going on since
  20. at least 3.3 (I probably reported it to the hotline
  21. even before that release, but that's not what I want to
  22. get into..)

  24. Every few days "netstat -m" starts reporting lots of
  25. "event" failures and things start breaking; you cannot
  26. rlogin to the machine.  It complains "select resource
  27. temporarily not available" and Xsession says the same
  28. thing in SYSLOG.  It *seems* to be caused by the quanta
  29. package being run on the console, at least that's my
  30. best guess.  Since quanta/polygen seems to be a wildly
  31. popular piece of software on SGIs, I can't imagine that
  32. we're alone in seeing this problem!?  Maybe it's not
  33. common that other systems are running quanta and have
  34. a couple of users logged in remotely as well, doing
  35. other things, but I sort of doubt it.

  37. NPROC has been increased to 256 to no avail.  I also
  38. mentioned that I'd try increasing NSTREVENT but that
  39. I thought that wouldn't help, as something is probably
  40. eating the resource and not freeing it.  Well, I tried
  41. increasing it from 30 -> 60 -> 120 and it makes no
  42. difference, the machine still runs out of "events."
  43.  
  44. So.. is there any fix for this?  Will 4.0.5Z fix it? :-/
