- For those interested, here I enclose my discussion with Cliff at UC

-
- Sounds bad! I don't think I want to try 12.1Z if that is what happens.

-
- The problems were:
-
- 1) We would occassionally see duplicate packets that we
- finally tracked down to the CNX's. Every now and then
- they would transmit a packet twice. Proteon sent us
- PROM upgrades for our FDDI interfaces and this fixed the
- problem.
-
- 2) Some portion of UDP packets were having their last byte
- corrupted. It is possible that it was happening to other
- types of packets also, but we only saw it with UDP packets.
- Going from 12.0 to 12.0c fixed this problem.
-
- The problem with our p4200 was that it would disable its FDDI interface.
- (This p4200 has one FDDI interface and one ProNET-80 interface.) It
- used to be that we had a large part of our campus network on the
- ProNET-80 side of the router. Now we have only one Sun on the ProNET-80,
- so there is basically not a lot of traffic for the p4200 to deal with.
-
- We also thought we saw other problems on the FDDI ring that happened
- at the same time as the p4200 problems (like CNX interfaces going down),
- but never really proved it.
-
- Since the problems have gone away, and since the p4200 is going to go
- away soon, we have not pursued these problems any further.
-
- It does sound like your routers are not under heavy load.
-

-
- We are hoping that they do much better with the CNX generation of
- products. So far they do seem to be doing well.
