- Hi,
-
- I responded to both Dan and John privately, but I forgot to follow up to the
- list. Here's what I am concerned about:
-
- As I understand it, if one does not use the netware encryption method, the
- default at login is to transmit password info as cleartext, not apple's
- password encryption. I consider this a significant security breach. I'm
- aware that there is a problem with how apple supports other encryption methods
- in the Chooser. What I would like to see is either a Login init/cdev from
- Novell that bypasses the Chooser to login directly using the netware encryption
- method, or a change in the NW4Mac NLM to default to Apple's encryption.
-
- I would also like to see more support for Mac clients in Netware. It would
- be a great help to have a scripting facility in Netware. I'm aware of the
- MacLogin Script program, but it would be nice to have a more integrated
- product from Novell that doesn't rely on commands embedded in comments. It
- would allow us network supervisors to tailor an environment for mac clients
- as we can for DOS/Windows, etc. I would like to see a MAP command for the mac
- that would contain the functionality of MAP ROOT and the shareware SetPaths
- init. A method to set up a Default Folder for a client logging in, using a
- SET_HOME object in the bindery. Right now I'm in the process of changing my
- mac lab configuration, so I have a lot of ideas percolating. :-)
-
- I hope out of the alliance between Apple and Novell, we will see some change
- in this direction soon.
