- Any Data Communications book written in the last 5 years would give you
- all the info you need.

- Yes, and No. Token Ring is a Token-Passing protocol that is a conceptual
- ring. But if you were to set it up Physically that way (topology) you
- would have a single-point-of-failure problem... IE: If one of your nodes
- in the ring went kablewey, you would loose your whole net (a break in
- the ring). So, for fault tolerance the topology is designed as a
- Star/Ring. This is also true of Ethernet. Even though the original
- Ethernet was a Bus topology, some smart folks though of creating a
- fault tolerant Star topology (sometimes using regular twisted pair)
- IE: 10BaseT.

- Token ring operates at the Physical Layer of the OSI model and is thus
- independant of any OSI compliant OS. Netware, for example can run on
- Token Ring, Ethernet or ARCnet.

-
- Netware, Definately. LAN Manager, I would guess yes. My experience is
- only with Netware.

-
- Since Routers operate at the Network layer of the OSI model, OSI compliant
- routers should be oblivious to the topology.

- I chose to post this because it could have relevance to a lot of Novell
- Administrators. Netters... Feel free to correct anything I may have
- gotten wrong. Thanks.
