- I just became the proud owner of a Performa 600, which came with "System
- 7.1P". Aside from At Ease, which is easy to turn off, this system seems to
- be just like regular System 7.1. Except for one thing. There is a special
- folder "Documents" at the top level. Any time you enter a file open/save
- dialog box, THE BOX STARTS OUT IN THE DOCUMENTS FOLDER. Want to open three
- files that are in the same folder? You get to navigate back to it each time.
- This is the most damn-fool misfeature I've seen from Apple in a long time.
- Do they think I want to store 160 Meg worth of files in one folder?
-
- So how do I turn off this "training wheel"? I tried trashing the Documents
- folder; then everything works normally, until I restart the system,
- whereupon the ^#$^%! thing reappears. (The Finder also insists on creating
- an Applications folder, but that one at least seems to be harmless.)
- I don't particularly care to do this on every bootup, so a permanent
- solution would be much appreciated.

- thanks, tom lane
