- Funny you should have this problem too. Just two days ago a friend had the
- same problem. However, we were able to rebuild the desktop, and they came back.
- As it turns out, many people's machines are having the same problem
- at work are doing the same thing. I read that when you upgrade (as we have
- all been doing with all the latest Microsoft upgrades) that the Desktop file
- changes as you all new applications. System software automatically
- copies the program's icon families to the Desktop file so they'll be
- handy for the Finder as it displays document icons. System software
- DOES NOT, however, delete Desktop file information from applications
- you delete from your hard disk. Moreover, if you copy an upgrade to
- an application to you your hard disk, and that upgrade contains a new
- icon, the older icon family may prevail.
-
- I rebuilt someone elses desktop and the icons did not change back, so
- after that I changed the view of the icons in the control panel,(select
- the middle size) and whamo they appeared.
-
- My proposal to the solution:
- Rebuild the desktop (making sure you hold down the option and command keys
- while restarting until you get the dialog box asking if you want to rebuild).
- Second, try chaning the view of the icons to the middle size.
-
- Good luck
