- : I have a friend that is having problems with his MAC. It seems that any Word,
- : Excel, Hypercard, etc. documents that are in a higher folder level than the
- : respective application fails to launch the application. Giving an error like
- : "Unable to find the application that created the the document" Documents at
- : lower folder levels launch the application. He also has noticed that all of
- : the documents just have "Document" listed as the file type and not "Microsoft
- : Word document" or "Microsoft Excel". He has tried everything short of
- : re-formatting the hard disk and re-installing all of the applications. He has
- : tried rebuilding the desktop, Norton Utilities Disk Doctor, re-installing the
- : system software and optimizing the disk.

- : Any suggestions?
-
- Rebuild the desktop. Just hold down command and option keys while rebooting.
