  16. A couple days ago a friend of mine was given an old mac 512k.
  17. However the machine came without any system software, so he asked
  18. me for help.  What is the latest system that will run on this
  19. model mac?  We found an old system 4.2, chopped it down so it
  20. would fit on a single-side disk and tried it (it successfully booted
  21. a mac plus), but he got an error 12 just before it finished booting.
  22. Does anybody know what this error is.  Does anybody have an old system 
  23. that will work on his mac?

  25. Is it possible for his mac to use a double-sided drive?
  26. He said he saw where he could get a mac plus logic board for $150,
  27. maybe this would be the best way for him to go.  But a cheaper
  28. solution would be better (after all $150 could be spent a lot of
  29. other ways).  Any help would be appreciated.
