- Things are ver easy.
- V.32 is true 9600 bps
- V.32bis is true 14400 bps
- V.42/V.42bis Error correction and datacompression. Gives up to 4 times gigher
- thru-put.
- MNP-5 with MNP 1-4 error correction. Compression up to 2 times higher thru-put.
-
- All the data-compression is worthless if you download compressed files.
- That is fiules already compressed with Stuffit, Compact Pro etc.
-
- SO if you get a 2400 baud modem with V.42 you will get the same download
- speed you always had. But text screens will update faster.
-
- I say, get a V.32bis modem. They have all V.42 too for thru-put of
- 57600 bps. And they can download at around 1650 chars/sec. if you
- uses the Z-modem protocol.
-
- 2400 baud modems is a thing of the past.
