- I'm somewhat worried about losing my hard drive. The last two times I
- turned on my Mac, the hard drive has not been recognized. What I mean
- by not recognized is that utility programs said it had serious errors.
- Apple's HD SC Setup failed the drive (I tried to Test it) even though
- it saw the partition map correctly. Some other HD utility I think
- identified it as a Cirrus (it's not) and then blew up.
- Both times, the computer worked perfectly after a cold boot (not a
- warm-boot). Right now, it's on-- I don't want to turn it off!
- The computer is a Mac SE/30 with an internal Quantum Prodrive 40S and
- nothing else on the SCSI chain. During this past winter break, I
- stored my Mac at someone's house.
-
- OK, now what should I do? Did transport losen the SCSI connector?
- (I've taken my computer apart too many times (~5), and that connector
- is HARD to pull on mine.) Could dust be a problem? (I'm next to a
- laundry room--yuck!) I think I'm going to take it apart this weekend
- and clean it (especially the floppy drive)--any suggestions on what to
- look for? I don't want to pay for service, of course, especially if I
- know my HD will work the 2nd time around! I'll just use backups!
- (Oh, I just remembered--sometime before break I reformatted my HD. I
- don't remmber why, though. Maybe it was a system upgrade.)
