- This really depends on what kind of data you are backing up. A single,
- uncompressed 60M tape can hold about 1.3GB of any data, and a 90M tape
- can hold about 2.0GB of data.

- The compression algorithms used in both hardware and software data
- compression (i.e. Retrospect software compression) will let you put about
- 2-4 times that onto a tape, depending on the type of data. Text files will
- compress a whole bunch, JPEG files won't. This allows for 2.6-5.2GB on a
- 60M tape, or 4-8GB on a 90M tape.

- You could test this yourself by doing a backup using RetroSpect and turning
- on the compression option built into Retrospect. It will run slower than a
- normal backup, but you will find out just how compressable your data is.

- The compression DAT's do almost the exactly the same thing as Retrospect's
- built-in compression algorithms, but they do it on the fly instead of using
- valuable processor time to do the compression.
