  11. My system:
  12. Macintosh SE/30 (System 7.0 german) SCSI-ID 7
  13. Internal 40 MB Quantum HD SCSI-ID 0
  14. External 240 MB Quantum HD SCSI-ID 3
  15. Laser printer PLP II SCSI-ID 6

  17. My problem:
  18. When I try to boot from the external HD, the system hangs just after
  19. displaying "Welcome to Macintosh" and "MacsBug installed". There is
  20. no drive activity any more. Jumping into MacsBugs is possible, but
  21. typing on the keyboard doesn't work. The only way to get out is to
  22. switch off the Mac and switch it on again. After two or three times
  23. the Mac boots from the external HD without problems.
  24. Booting from the internal HD sometimes causes the same problem.
  25. I found out, that the problem is more likely when I use the Silverlining
  26. driver rather than the Apple driver.

  28. My question:
  29. What am I doing wrong? Is there a certain order for switching on the 
  30. SCSI devices (Usually my order is: printer, external, Mac). Must they
  31. have certain IDs?
