- In Omnis (v7) how do you deal with verifying/limiting the
- number of multiple users in an application?
-
- If you are distributing a custom application, what approach
- can you use to ensure that the software is not pirated and used
- for 12 machines, instead of the 3 copies which were purchased?
-
- 4th Dimension handles this pretty thoroughly, if a bit harshly.
- With 4D (through version 2.2.3) each runtime copy has a serial
- number coded into it and when the runtime is started up, it looks
- out over the network to see if any other copies with the same
- serial number are running. With 4D Server (just out) they use
- a dongle (hardware key) which is also obnoxious, but effective.
-
- Is there a way to achieve similar results with Omnis? Maybe keep
- track of the number of simultaneous users? But then what if someone
- crashes while logged onto the database--will they still be
- considered logged on?
-
- Any thoughts and ideas appreciated.
