- What would help is knowing what the actual model number of you computer.
- Several sharps meet this description - but my guess is it is the PC4500
- (PC4502 twin floppy version that you are talking about.)
-
- If it is the 4502 then I might be able to help.
- The electronics for the serial port on the 4502 are on a separate board
- mounted just above the main mother board. The board is removable
- so that it could be replaced with an internal modem board (I think).
- If this board came away from its plug onto the board then the serial
- port would presumable malfunction. Checking whether the board is seated
- properly is a start.
-
- The problem you describe regarding the send and receive lights on your modem
- going on and off in sync with your floppy lights sounds as though
- you have your modem plugged into the wrong socket. The 4502 has three DB25s
- on the side of the left hand side of the computer. The rear bottom one
- is the parallel port and the front bottom is a external floppy drive
- connector (it sounds as though you have the modem plugged into this socket).
- The top connector (a male) is the serial port.
-
- Hope this helps.
