-
- I used to run AIX on my model 80, with a Maxtor 660 MB SCSI disk.
-
- My choice was the IBM non-cache controller. My experience with AIX is
- that it is very particular about the hardware - wanting only IBM devices.
- I played it safe, and was not disapointed. THe controller was relatively
- inexpensive, installed flawlessly, and seemded transparent to both DOS
- and AIX. (i.e. looks just like any other drive: no ASPI4DOS.SYS, etc.)
-
- I concluded there was no need for the caching controller, as UNIX does
- it's own caching.
-
- One thing though: If you plan to use a SCSI disk greater than 512 MB
- as your BOOT disk, beware. There was a problem with AIX that limited
- boot disk size to 512 MB. Last I heard, they had a work-around out and
- were working on a fix. I believe the fix was nothing more than making
- more than one partition with the boot partition less than 512MB.
-
- Good luck.
