- This install is not going well. I have done the following:
-
- 1. Successfully installed the board; the system "sees" the controller.
- And the controller "sees" the drive.
- (Attempted the alternate ROM address on the board also.)
- 2. Installed the Toshiba drive and hoped that the factory chose the
- default settings for the jumpers appropriate for the XT.
- 3. Formatted 720K floppies successfully.
-
- That's what occurred in evening one.
-
- In evening two:
-
- 4. Added a config.sys entry for driveparms like:
- driveparm=/f:7 /d:0 # for MSDOS v5.0
-
- 5. Subsequently, I can no longer format 720K floppies, and
- apparently the controller does not "see" the drive but
- I can't be sure. If I back out the driveparm, the drive
- would be totally useless.
-
- All cables appear to be good and oriented correctly.
- I suspect either a jumper on the drive or a configuration
- line in the config.sys file. I realize of course that an
- HD floppy drive has to be "crowbarred" into an XT (almost).
- I am now accepting suggestions as to what to else to look
- for. If any more data is needed I will suppy it via e-mail.
