  13. I am interested in buying a handscanner to go along with
  14. my PC (486 with Windows 3.1).  I think what I would like is
  15. one that can scan lineart, grayscale, 8+ bit color.  Do any
  16. such scanners exist?  Are they any good?  What kind of
  17. software comes with them?
  18.     I've also heard of using a grayscale scanner to scan 
  19. color by using 3 separate color filters and software to build 
  20. a color image from 3 grayscale scans.  Does this really work?
  21. Is it a reasonable option to a color scanner?  I really won't
  22. do much color scanning but when I do, I want the results to
  23. look good.
