- In front of your screen, right behind the glass, there is a fine metal
- mesh used for producing the right colors on your screen. As you know,
- there are three electron-guns in your CRT, each producing one of the
- colors red, green and blue. Now you have held a magnet in front of your
- screen, the mesh has been disformed, and the electrons that come from
- the various guns are directed incorrectly. This causes the screen to turn
- in a particular color (in your case blue).
-
- To put it short: Your CRT is fucked up really badly!!! And because you are
- not able to open the tube to straighten the mesh again, it will be difficult
- to get things ok again. You can try the following:
-
- 1 -- Get a good demagnetizer, the same that is used for demagnetizing
- cassette decks.
-
- 2 -- Use a magnet and wave this in front of your CRT. It is important
- to create a random magnetic field, so you have to move the magnet
- up and down randomly. Start nearby and slowly walk back, constantly
- waving the magnet (it sounds like voodoo magic, but it is the same
- way you have to use a cassette deck demagentizer).
-
- BUT: THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU START DEMAGNETIZING YOUR CRT WITH A BIG
- MAGNET, YOU COULD MAKE THINGS WORSE!!! PLEASE DON'T B/FLAME ME
- IF YOUR MULTI-THOUSAND MONITOR IS RUINED FOR LIFE AFTER DEMAGNETIZING.
-
- (ps: way back, i used to go to our local tv-set store, with a huge magnet
- in my pocket. after a while some tv's showed funny purple and blue
- spots all over the screen. i'm lucky they never caught me :-) )
